The name “Nivara” is based on the Sanskrit word Nivāra or Nivāraṇa, which means, prevention, protection, or redressal. “Lex Legal”, reflects the dual pillars of our practice. 'Lex' represents our foundational commitment to the principles of law. 'Legal' represents our dynamic practice - the strategic application of those principles to solve today's complex legal challenges. This unique combination signifies our belief that the most powerful legal advocacy is born where respect for the law meets expert legal execution.

  • Barasha Baruah Pathak

    With over 20 years of legal experience across law firms and in-house roles, Barasha, an alumni of Symbiosis Law School, Pune, leads Nivara Lex Legal. She is known for her strategic legal counsel, offering both day-to-day legal support as well as guidance on complex, high-value transactions. Her approach is client-focused, commercially sound, and legally robust. Barasha has advised on high-stakes M&A transactions, diverse commercial contracts, and a wide range of IPR matters — from trademark registrations to global brand acquisitions for Indian operations. Her expertise spans general corporate and commercial advisory, regulatory compliance, data privacy, e-commerce, employment, advertising, media and entertainment, and drugs and cosmetics laws. She has also led real estate transactions, assisting clients in acquiring properties across India and also assisted clients in estate planning and succession matters. In addition, her dispute resolution work has helped clients successfully navigate complex commercial and consumer issues.

    Practicing since 2004 at the High Court of Judicature at Bombay, in Mumbai on Constitutional, Civil, Criminal, Banking and Finance, Securitisation, Real Estate matters, Company Affairs. Regularly advises and represents organizations and financial institutions on money laundering issues including criminal enforcement, regulatory and administrative enforcement, requirements for financial institutions. Regularly advises and represents organisations and corporates on lending and secured and structured finance – including guarantees, collateral security, financial assistance, syndicated lending and asset reconstruction and stressed buy outs, Bankruptcy and Insolvency advisory and proceedings. and real estate matters. Regularly appears before Bombay High Court at Mumbai, District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum and Maharashtra State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Mumbai, Debts Recovery Tribunal and Debts Recovery Appellate Tribunal (DRAT), Mumbai, National Company Law Tribunal- Mumbai branch, Arbitration proceedings and assisting in resolving disputes through alternate disputes redressal forums and amicable settlements..     Deepak Deshmukh is a dispute resolution lawyer with over 17 years of experience, specialising in complex commercial litigation, arbitration, insolvency and bankruptcy, white-collar crime, media & entertainment law and succession laws. Known for his strategic thinking and client-focused approach, he advises and represents clients in high-stakes disputes before courts and tribunals including the Supreme Court, High Courts, NCLT, and NCLAT, as well as in domestic and international arbitrations. His insolvency practice spans the full spectrum of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, where he regularly advises creditors, debtors, resolution professionals, and resolution applicants in CIRP and restructuring matters. Deepak has also represented prominent individuals and corporations in sensitive white-collar crime investigations involving corporate fraud and regulatory violations. In the media and entertainment sector, he advises on copyright and trademark disputes, defamation actions, and regulatory issues. His ability to understand business realities and translate complex disputes into practical legal strategies makes him a trusted advisor to clients across industries.

    Kasturi Borkotoki is a seasoned professional with over a decade of experience in Diversity Equity and Inclusion, grounded in a strong background in academia, learning design, and facilitation. She has led DEI strategy, program development, and organizational change initiatives across sectors, partnering with leaders to embed equity into culture, systems, and everyday practice. Trained in POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) Train-the-Trainer (TTT) programs, she brings a practical, people-centered approach to compliance, awareness, and behavioural change. Her focus is on engaging facilitation that turns policy into everyday practice. In addition to POSH, she is well-versed in the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act , 2019 and the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. She integrates these legal frameworks into her training programs to promote inclusion, dignity, and equal opportunity in the workplace. Prior to specializing in DEI, Kasturi spent several years designing and facilitating learning experiences, developing a deep passion for facilitation as a tool for connection, insight, and change. Earlier in her career, she worked in academic settings, where she developed a rigorous, research-informed approach to learning and inquiry. Known for creating engaging, psychologically safe spaces, she skilfully guides groups through complex and sensitive conversations. Her work integrates theory and practice, data and lived experience, to build inclusive environments where individuals and organizations can learn, grow, and perform at their best.
